Shepherd’s Holiday
Spend a week as a shepherd with privacy at the farm’s summer cottage. The cottage’s yard, filled with bushes and perennials, houses a small private sauna, and a swimming pond is only a few hundred meters away.The sheep are taken to the Havukka-aho pasture for the summer. The pasture is just a half of a kilometer from the cottage, first through the horse fence and then walking along a path. The summer shepherds’ job includes drawing water from the creek for the thirsty ones, keeping company for the ones who need it and repairing the fences for the ones who want to run away.
There’s plenty to do in mornings and evenings
So a sure rest is given
Sit on a rock or a stump
Recite a poem if you’ve got the guts
Or walk the edge of the meadow and admire the beautiful rustic fence
There’s plenty for a trip if you wish: paths, fields, hills
The mind and body will be pleased.
Or maybe you long for another kind of life?
You can always row and paddle
The waters of Puso, Hera or Pielinen
These are difficult to shake from the mind.
Hay you can reap
We have meads and meadows plenty.
If you feel
That there´s too much rest
You can always milk a cow or brush a horse.
The week passed quickly
Time to pack, hug the sheep and return home.

Hiking
There is a path connecting Nevala to the Herajärvi Circle Hike. This Herajärvi Circle Hike was awarded the best Hike of the year 2007. The surroundings of the Nevala Estate are most suitable for hiking and outdoor activities. In the vicinity there are some magnificent views over the lakes Höytiäinen, Pielinen and Herajärvi.
